NHSAA Virginia Beach

the National High School Activities Association's national high school folk style championships were last weekend in Virginia Beach.  This is the toughest folkstyle tournement in the nation for high school wrestlers.  this tournement is fiercly competitive, with true studs coming out on top.  wrestlers who place top eight in this tournement are crowned National High School all americans.

Among National high school all americans locally i can think of 4 people.  brent havlick from mithchel, won state this year, and placed 7th at virginia beach last year, another big name,  Kris Klapprodt(rapid city stevens) who currently wrestles for iowa state got beaten in the finals by logan storley from webster.Klapprodt was a 5 time fanalist, winning state 3 times.  logan storley wrestles for minnesota right now, and placed 6th at the NCAA D1 nationals.Logan Storley is South Dakotas first 6 time state champion.  and a Junior from Spearfish Nate Rotert has consecutivley won Virginia Beach twice.  he is a two time state finalist, winning this last year.

NCAA wrestling finals

The NCAA division 1 wrestling hcampionships took place a couple weeks ago during march, the tournement lasted 2 days, with penn state ending up winning.  there was some big names that showed up, and some new names heard.  penn state had 5 guys in the finals, wich is very immpressive because there is only 10 weight classes.  the standouts from the penn state team are Frank Molinaro, David taylor, and Ed Ruth.

Ed Ruth was a pretty new wrestling name made at this tournement, for even being a sophmor, he won the 174lb weight class via major decision.  that shows that he is so good because most college matches are within 4 points, he won by 9.  Ed Ruth totally dominated that weight class this year, and is going to be a tough competitor for the next two years.
